WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel and pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

POTLUCK NEXT SUNDAY: NOVEMBER 3 is the first Sunday of the month, and we have a tradition we enjoy — to eat together in a potluck. Many of us bring extra food, and even if you cannot bring anything to eat, we hope you will honor us with your presence and allow us to share the extra we have. Please stay and enjoy lunch with us next Sunday.

SENIOR BRUNCH: The area senior brunch for November will be on November 5 at Bob Evans in Roseland — right across from where it was the last two times. Just take 11th street out of Niles and when you pass Cleveland Road it is on your left just as you get to the toll road entrance. It is at 11:00.

CLASSES: Richard Hoyt continues to teach an amazing class on Sunday night at 6:00 on the harmony of the gospels in their description of the life of Christ. Our Wednesday night class on the life of Moses has been challenging. We are studying the man, his life, his relationship to God, and how his life has affected us today. Come join us at 7:15 Wednesday night for this study. Our Sunday morning class and discussion continues to be on the book of Acts. Join us in this useful study.

SEPARATING HALLOWEEN FROM THE PARANORMAL

This week is a fun time for kids. The whole idea of having costumes and of telling funny stories about imaginary characters is a happy recreation for children — old and young. Trick or treat, bobbing for apples, and having costume parties can be a fun time of sharing and having good activities. And people who like scary things from haunted houses to goofy fantasy like Casper the Ghost enjoy a wide range of stretches of their imaginations.

The sad thing about humanity is that Satan uses fun things like Halloween in destructive ways. I had a fellow teacher in South Bend whose beautiful 12-year-old daughter was pegged by witches as an ideal candidate for human sacrifice, and on Halloween he had to hide her from people who would have done her harm. We all know you cannot let your kids go door to door for treats because people have put razor blades and d-CON in Halloween candy. In our day of heavy paranormal claims, police are kept busy with a wide assortment of calls for all kinds of terrible acts by people claiming paranormal activity.

God has always strongly opposed the paranormal. In Exodus 22:18 God authorized capital punishment for witchcraft, because people strongly into the paranormal are a threat to others. If you study Deuteronomy 18:10; 2 Chronicles 33:6; 2 Kings 9:22; and Galatians 5:20, you will see that child sacrifice, killing of innocent people, drug use, and gross sexual acts were a natural by-product of involvement in the paranormal. Do not confuse “Scooby-Doo” with the sorcery of the drug culture.

It is a good time to share with friends and neighbors the difference between fantasy and involvement in destructive Satanic arts. Our children need to understand that they can be secure in their relationship to God, but that they cannot trust anyone who would replace God with ghosts, witches, spirit creatures, magic, or claims of the ability to use the supernatural.
