WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel and pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

ARE YOU SMELLING TOO GOOD? We have some folks in attendance at our services who have an allergic reaction to perfume. Adam and Eve survived without Chanel N°5, and we love you for what you are, not how you smell (or look). We are asking all of our members to reduce or eliminate the perfumes and/or fragrances so some of us can stop sneezing and having headaches! Thanks!

FAMILY FUN FAIR: We had our second meeting to prepare for Family Fun Fair on May 15. Right now our greatest need is workers to supervise activities. Let Mandy know if you have family or someone you can trust who would help us. We need people to help serve cookies, drinks, water, etc. We need people to help kids off and on the pony ride, the bounce house, etc. We need referees for the games and water balloon activities and to keep the lines in order. No big responsibility, just help kids have a good time. Our next meeting is May 29 at 6:00 P.M. Everyone is welcome

THANKS to Shane Wallace who has spent massive amounts of time and quite a bit of money digging a trench, a dry well, filling with gravel and finishing the work of getting water away from our building. Shane's skill and knowledge has been critical in getting this job done

TODAY'S LESSON

THREE MEN — THREE CROSSES

John Clayton

INTRODUCTION — This happened 2,000 years ago.
A. The attitudes and struggles of today are similar.
B. As we look at Luke's account, what we see is nothing has changed.
C. Three Crosses then and now.
I. THE CROSS OF DOUBT — Luke 23:35-39
A. Sarcasm and verbal abuse are still common today.
1. Why do people like to abuse the church ?
2. The church is a scapegoat for frustration.
3. People degrade — look for a flaw, minimize.
B. The faithless always join the crowd — mob mentality.
1. Emotional contagion — even with death near.
2. Only people of faith stand for what is right.
C. A doubter's sins are killing him.
1. Satan uses the criminal's sins to feed doubt.
2. God does not cause the problems — James 1:13ff.
3. People joke about their sin: “These things will kill me yet,” etc.
D. People with no hope will “crucify” Christian values.
All the “-isms,” Atheism, naturalism, etc.
E. Doubt gives no trust or hope in the future.
Romans 8:28 — What do you hope for?
II. THE CROSS OF FAITH — Luke 23:40-42.
A. A clear view of the facts gives a “head faith.”
1. Intellectual knowledge can answer head doubt.
2. Emotional doubt is tougher — Galatians 6:2.
B. Cross of faith — repentance. Thief in Luke 23:40-41.
1. How much did the thief know?
2. Matthew 27:44 — The thief railed, then left doubt.
3. It is never too late to come to faith.
III. THE CROSS OF PARDON — Luke 23:43. Complete!
A. John 14:2 — What is a mansion? Greek means abode.
B. 2 Corinthians 5:17 — The NEW creation — from God.
1. The pardoned have peace.
2. The pardon has to be accepted.

SAVE JUNE 29

For several weeks now we have been talking about the Family Fun Fair at the end of June. This is not a worship activity, but it is a major part of our work as a congregation. Our congregational mission statement involves reaching out to make a difference in the community. There are many ways to do this. Some congregations have radio or TV programs. Some congregations take out ads in the local newspapers or other media outlets. We choose as a congregation to do our outreach by serving the community. We provide food to people who need it on a regular basis; in fact, our last service involved over 70 people, which I believe was an all-time record. We give away coats in the fall to kids who need them.

The Family Fun Fair is a time when we meet with people in the area for a time of positive, wholesome, social, and recreational activities, hoping to influence them with Christian principles. In Acts 2:1-16 the first crowd came to hear Peter preach, and the Lord prepared sound and sight influences to bring the people to hear the gospel. That is the basic idea of our Family Fun Fair. Last year we had over 200 people who came to our Family Fun Fair activities. If the weather is good, we expect this year to be over 300. To do this we need everyone to be involved. Already we have had workers who have contacted business establishments and government officials to secure items we hope to share with our friends and neighbors. Dozens of phone calls have been made, and numerous contacts have been checked out for everything from the “bounce house” to the “pony ride.”

Getting the word out about what we are doing requires a lot of work. Such simple things as making sure the dunk tank water is not too cold takes time and planning. Putting up signs all over town and getting on TV and radio so people know what we are doing is important. Some of our members have spent many hours doing the leg work to set all this up. We need everybody to be a part of the Family Fun Fair. Plan to be here all afternoon on June 29, and bring someone with you who can help. We are not doing the Cass County Fair this year, so let us give this 100% effort!
