TO OUR VISITORS

The family of God here at Dowagiac Church of Christ wishes to extend to you a warm welcome. If you have questions about our worship services and why we do what we do, we will be glad to give you a biblical answer. The uniqueness of the Church of Christ is that we are trying to restore to the best of our ability those things that we see the first century Church doing. We are also working hard at building the spirit, unity, and love that Jesus taught and prayed for. We have no clergy, but are working together as equal co-workers trying to serve one another and the area in which we live. Come study with us, grow with us, and serve with us as we strive to do God's will in all things.

NEW CLASS ON SPIRITUAL GIFTS
One of the areas where there is a great deal of confusion in the religious world is in the area of spiritual gifts. This last lectureship trip we just got back from gave me an opportunity to work with Lindsey Garmon who has written a great deal on this subject, and is considered a scholar in this area. I bought some of his teaching materials and have been studying them in some detail. We will be starting a class tonight that will meet regularly on Sunday nights at 6:00 as a part of our evening worship service. I believe you will find this study to be biblical, clear, easy to understand, personal, and helpful. There is even an exercise to help you find your personal gilt or gifts. Plan to come tonight and regularly to allow yourself to grow and understand what the operation of the spirit in the life of a Christian means.

FAMILY NEWS

Our monthly potluck is today! If you forgot or did not know about it, stay anyway. We always have food left over. We have lots to talk about, so stay, and be a part of catching up and planning for the future.

PROGRESS--Hopefully by the time you read this the carpet work will be done in the basement. A lot of people have spent a great deal of time and energy getting the classrooms ready and solving a number of problems we had with the facility. Take a look, and thank all who have worked on this project.

TODAY'S LESSON

MAKING YOUR JOB A MINISTRY
Ephesians 6:5-8

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.
How do you view your job--35-40% of your life?
1. See your job as an opportunity, and be grateful
Work is not a cruel master.
Work is not our God.
Work opens doors--better than preachers do.
Matthew 5:13-16--be lights and salt.
2. See your iob as a responsibility,
Colassians 3:22-25--It is apartnersliip with God.
Jeremiah 29:5-7--We are to be contributors.
1 Thesselonians 4:11-l2--We win respect of outsiders.
1 Timothy 5:8--Family is our concern.
3. See your job as a ministry--be faithful.
Ephesians 5:6-8--above
Our time and money belong to God.
If work is drudgery, make it joyful.
Make your work a place of testimony--John 17:16.
Philippians 2:14-15--Shine!
4. Things fo do and not to do
Don't brag--Matthew 5:16
Don't nag--Colossians 4:5-6
Don't lag--Ephesians 6:5-8
Don't sag--Stay plugged into the power.
Do be filled with Christ so they can see the difference.

THE "ONE ANOTHERs"

One of the unique things about Christianity is the emphasis on serving others. In our modem world there is so much emphasis on "Looking after number 1" and "survival of the fittest" that the notion of being concerned about others is looked at somewhat askance. Selfishness is the name of the game in the world in which we live, but look at how many times in scripture we are told to make the needs of our brothers and sisters a main priority:

Love one another--John 13:34.

Be devoted to one another--Romans 12:10.

Care for one another--1 Corinthians 12:25.

Bear one another's burdens--Galatians 6:2.

Be kind to one another--Ephesians 4:32.

Show forbearance to one another--Ephesians 4:2.

Serve one another--Galatians 5:13.

Accept one another--Romans 15:7.

Pursue the building up of one another--Romans 14:19.

Give preference to one another in honor--Romans 12:10

Wait for one another--1 Corinthians 11:33.

Greet one another--Romans 16:16.

Be of the same mind toward one another--Romans 12:16; 15:5.

Stop judging one another--Romans 14:13.

This is a partial list. Let us work at understanding the unique responsibility we each have to care for all of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
