We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something we have a Bible basis for. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel any pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of our members. Thank you for worshipping with us. FAMILY NEWS
POTLUCK: Today is our monthly potluck. We have lots and lots of food. Plan to join us for a wonderful meal together. FAIR EXHIBIT--THANKS! Our sincere thanks to everyone who worked the fair booth. Many of you worked a three hour shift every day and a large number worked two or three days. The booth could not be left without workers, and we thank you for the time and effort and putting up with the heat, dirt, wind, and occassional eccentric visitor. God bless you. SINGING: August 14 is the date of the area-wide singing here. We will need help on Thursday morning to clean the building and Saturday morning the 13th to set up the canopies and get the fellowship area ready for food. The singing starts at 5:00. If you can bring food and have not let anyone know, be sure to check with one of the ladies about what you should bring. CAMP INDOGAN: The camp is OK in spite of the storm--it had some trees down and some damage to several of the buildings. There are needs, and if you are interested see Karl or Julie Marcussen. TODAY'S LESSON
WHO DO
YOU SAY JESUS IS?
Matthew
16:13-16
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”WE ASKED THIS QUESTION THIS PAST WEEK AT THE FAIR. A. A
weirdo--eccentric, strange--ike John the
Baptist
JESUS IS
NOT A MAN WHO BECAME A GOD, BUT GOD WHO
BECAME
A MAN. B. An irrelevant historical figure like Elijah C. A fictitious character like one of the prophets A. John

B. John 1 :1, 14 C. Coil :15-17 D. John 14:6 WHAT DO YOU
BELIEVE?

2. We can always reject living as God tells us--1 Corinthians 9:27 3. Matthew 16:24-27 This has been a busy
time for the congregation. We have just completed
our Fair Booth in which we have interacted with
the public and made our friends and neighbors
aware of our presence in the area and of what we
offer and try to do. This year we also uniquely
reached out to people who are disenfranchised
members of the Lord's body. What that means is
people who have been in attendance at the Church
and jor have been baptized into Christ and started
a new life and then got distracted or led away by
Satan into apathy and noninvolvement with the
Lord's work. We did find some of these, and
hopefully~ome of them will visit and be a part of
activities we have. We deliberately followed up
the fair by having a spiritual event in our
building before the visitors we had at the fair
have a chance to forget us or be distracted by
other activities.
Next Sunday at 5:00 we will have a singing here at the building followed by a fellowship meal. We not only invited people at the fair to come, but have mailed invitations to sister congregations in the area. We expect to have a crowd that will be around 100 people. We can get 100 people in our auditorium, but not in our fellowship area. Bill Gibson has two canopy type tents that we have used in the past which can handle the overflow. We have redone our air conditioning in the fellowship area, so we can make our guests comfortable. This is always a good time of joyous singing, sharing, and focusing on praising God and encouraging one another. That is the atmosphere and attitude we want to convey to all of our visitors. We hope every member of the congregation will be on board with our purpose and the reason to have this project so close to our fair exhibit. We also hope that many of you can help out in getting the singing done. We need with the following: Thursday Morning Clean the building Be here at 9:30 Saturday morning Put up the canopies See Bill Gibson Sunday afternoon Bring food, prepare tables Be here at 2:30 Prayers for our efforts. |
