WELCOME! WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something we have a Bible basis for. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel any pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

POTLUCK: Today is our monthly potluck. We always have lots of food. Some of our folks are traveling over this holiday weekend. Plan to join us for a wonderful meal together and a time of fellowship.

NEEDS: We have a number of individuals and families that are going through major struggles in their lives. Some of these are physical struggles with cancer, old age issues, diabetes, and/or a combination of these. Julie and Karl Marcussen have kept us up to date on most of these and we urge you to devote some time to these needs. If you know of physical needs that are not on the listing of illnesses, be sure to let us know.

We also have a number of members and friends dealing with emotional, spiritual, and psychological issues. These needs are probably more significant and have greater implications than the physical issues. Spend some time praying for members and friends of members here that you know are in need. Fervent prayer accomplishes much--please do not neglect it.

LABOR DAY

We all know that the is Labor Day Weekend. For the most part this will be a day that marks the end of summer. From now on the recreation industry around Lake Michigan will be shutting down, and people will be closing their summer homes and putting their summer toys away. There will be some attention to the history of organized labor in political circles, but like most of our holiday's the real history and significance of the holiday is lost.

In this day of joblessness and recession the value of having a job has become more clear. God has always given man a responsibility to work. In Exodus 20:9 man was told to work and the ancient Sabbath was given as a day of rest and refreshment. Exodus 23:12 indicated that not only would man rest, but his animals and strangers should rest as well and be refreshed.

Jesus used working and fairness of reward for work in many of his parables such as Matthew 20. Luke 10:7 tells us "the labourer is worthy of his hire;" and passages like Ephesians 4:28 and 1 Thessalonians 4:11 point out the importance of each one working to pay his own way. Paul set a great example of the value of labor by supporting himself as a tentmaker as he preached the Word, and in 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12 he pointed out the example he had set in doing so.

In Colossians 3:22-25 Paul instructs Christians to be the best workers they can be, and in the following chapter he instructs those who hire to be fair and just. In the early days of America the success stories in American labor came when people acted upon their Christian beliefs. This was called by scholars "the protestant work ethic" and it was a sustaining force in what made America great.

Christians are to be examples in all that they do, and being the best employees we can be, or the best supervisors we can be is a part of our Christian belief system. This Labor Day has some special significance because of the stress our country is in economically right now, but for Christians being the best we can be and serving well as a worker or a manager is a part of our belief system. We celebrate Labor Day and this great country this weekend, but we also celebrate our beliefs as Christians, to teach all who see us by our example in our work.
