We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel any pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us. FAMILY
NEWS
POTLUCK AND CONGREGATIONAL MEETING TODAY. We have not had a congregational meeting for a long time, and right now we have no projects being worked on. There is an outline of the agenda for today's meeting available. If you have not gotten one, please see John Clayton. We will all meet together and make some decisions and plans, and the men and the ladies will then meet separately for some specialized projects that need attention. Plan to stay for the meal and then spend an hour or so extra with us planning the Lord's work for 2012. CAN YOU HEAR? We are continuing to work on the sound system. Please let one of the men know if you cannot hear the speaker or the one leading prayer. CLASSES. We have some great classes going on. Come tonight at 6:00 for our study of James with Richard Hoyt!! B. An opportunity to renew a commitment--Acts 8:21-24 BE A PART OF THE LORD'S WORK One of the most common responses I hear to sermons that are designed to encourage people to get involved in ministry is "I don't know what to do." When we studied spiritual gifts in our Bible studies in 2011 we spent an enormous amount of time in 1 Corinthians 12. That beautiful passage talks about how important all parts of the body (the church) are. When the apostle talks about specific gifts in verses 28-31 he identifies all of us. In verse 38 Paul puts "those who help others" in the same category as those who teach or have special powers. There is no such thing as a Christian without gifts. The purpose of us meeting as a congregation is to allow all of our gifts to be exercised. You cannot teach if there is no one to teach. You cannot lead worship if there is no worship. The ability to help others can function without a worship service, but the church needs to facilitate that gift and expand its outreach to all people in need. We are meeting this afternoon after our dinner together to make some decisions about what we want to do to facilitate all of us being able to use whatever gifts we have. We are proposing some ways of preparing a meal that we can invite the community to so we can teach them the gospel. We are proposing a way to bring women who we never can get to worship to come to our building at the invitation of people they know, and be taught God's word. We are trying to decide if we should bring the church before the community again at the Cass County Fair, and if so what theme would be the best to attract people to stop and look at what we have to offer. I urge you to be a part of all this, to be a part of the Lord's work. Do not leave it to others to decide and facilitate. Do not say "they decided" say "we decided." "We" serve God and try to do His will--not "they." |
