GOOD NEWS! This Friday marks the official end of winter, starts a bright new time of year — spring! That means a lot of new things for us to start thinking about. Our highway clean up will be in April, and we have talked about giving a plant to our neighbors during that effort. If we decide to do that, we need to start working on getting the plants. There are some 35 houses on the highway we clean. We also need volunteers to work on the yard and on the equipment to do the mowing. See Richard Hoyt if you can help in this work or if you have questions about the highway clean up project. BIBLE STUDY TUESDAY: It is the third Tuesday of the month, and every third Tuesday the Claytons have an area-wide bible study at their house — 1555 Echo Valley Drive in Niles. The study starts at 7:00 and all you need to bring is yourself and your Bible. We have about 25 people who come from congregations all over Michiana. Great fellowship, snacks, and a good study. Plan to come this Tuesday. TODAY'S LESSON
INTRODUCTION
A. We are plagued with popularizers who complicate the book of Revelation.
I. JESUS CHRIST IS AT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE.
1. End times people that make it political
B. Written to encourage people enduring persecution.
2. Super hero videos, fad diets, health scams 1. Persecution from government, religionism
C. Revelation 5 makes three points about Jesus.A. Revelation 5:6 — Lamb that was slain is in the throne.
II. JESUS IS TO BE THE CENTER OF WORSHIP AND LIFE
1. Throne was not a chair — see chapter 4 and Colossians 1:15f
B. Phil 2:10 – 11 — Is Jesus at the center of your universe?2. Gems, lightning, lamps, beasts — all part of throne 3. Seven horns = power seven eyes = sees all 4. Same theme in Daniel 7:9 – 14 A. Revelation 5:11 – 14
III. JESUS IS AT THE CENTER OF MY SUFFERING.
1. Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:11 (The congregation sang “Holy, Holy, Holy.”)
B. John 15:18 — We can expect hate from the world.2. There is no worship without Jesus at the center. 3. Who is at our center? C. We lose Jesus when we sin, complain, cuss, etc. D. “Asking Jesus into your heart” keeps “ME” in control. 1. We ask him to help us do what WE want.
2. Jesus wants us to come into his heart. A. Jesus is pictured as a slain lamb (not a lion) — verse 6.
1. Jesus knew the injustice of Rome, hypocrisy, the cross.
B. Hebrews 4:15 and Philippians 2:10 – 11 — Is Jesus at your center?2. The pain of loss — John 11:35 THE BACK PAGEWEARY“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” (Galatians 6:9 – 10). This past week has been a struggle for many of us here, especially for the Gibson family. Patty's mom has had a recurring heart problem and fell on Tuesday and Patty was at the hospital with her. Bill has been battling a bad infection on top of his heart rhythm problems, but he came for class on Wednesday night. In addition to a number of requests for food from our panty, we had a request from a lady who was sleeping in her truck, had just lost her father, had no money, no food, no place to stay and was out of gas. She needed help. Like everyone else, we could find lots of reasons not to help her. There is a lot of sickness among us, we were all tired, this woman was not part of “the family of believers,” and she appeared to be healthy, and quite young raising questions about family and why she was in such a desperate situation. She was at the Five-Mile Corner area north of Dowagiac so Bill got her gas on his way home. Julie found a place for her to stay and connected her to agencies in South Bend that can help her find a place in the future, and we took her some food. We tried to meet her needs. Doing good is not always easy or convenient. There are enough scams out there to allow us to rationalize why we should not get involved, especially in situations we know nothing about. Galatians 6 does not qualify doing good. The harvest that comes from doing good may be a long time away, and at some other place, but God will bring a harvest. Our job is to sow the seeds, not to bring the harvest — we leave that to God. — John Clayton Our sign by the street!Sign saying from www.sayingsforchurchsigns.com |
