FAMILY NEWSLOTS TO PRAY ABOUT: There is a lot going on among our members and their families. We all need to keep the Marcussens (Karl's sister), Gibsons (Bill), Tracey Brewer (Mom), Claytons (John's brother), Hoyts (Tina), and Will Rogers (the Rogers are in the Gibson's campground and his brother in Niles is facing problems with blood clots). Lana Fox and Harold Mathis have had good reports, and we praise God for that. We will update you this morning. PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR — JULY 10 — Congregational Picnic: We have reserved a pavilion at Madeline Bertrand County Park south of Niles for a special area-wide meeting of Christians. Lunch will be at 1:00, a singing at 3:00 followed by a devotional. We are inviting sister congregations to join us for a time of fellowship, singing, and unity. A flier is available in the lobby for you to take to give to friends and to remind yourself of that date. We are the host, so we all need to be there. Our thanks to Lana Fox for making the arrangements. TODAY'S LESSON

THE BACK PAGEWHY I LOVE MY MOTHERMom and Dad were watching TV when Mom said “I'm tired, I think I'll go to bed.” She went into the kitchen to make sandwiches for the next day's lunches, rinsed out the popcorn bowls, took meat out of the freezer, filled the sugar container, put spoons and bowls on the table and started the coffee pot for brewing the next morning. Then she put some clothes in the dryer, put a load of clothes in the wash, ironed a shirt and fixed a loose button on Dad's shirt. The next thing was she watered the plants, emptied a waste basket, hung up a towel to dry and finally headed for the bedroom. She stopped by the desk on the way and wrote a note to the teacher, counted out some cash for a field trip, signed a birthday card, addressed and stamped it and wrote a grocery list. Dad called out “I thought you were going to bed!” “I'm on my way” she replied as she put water in the dog's dish, called the cat in and locked the doors. She looked in on the kids, hung up a shirt, threw dirty socks in the hamper, had a conversation with one doing homework and a prayer with another. In her own room she set the alarm, laid out clothing for the next day, straightened up the closet, and added three items to her list of things to do the next day. About that time, Dad turned off the TV and announced to no one in particular “I'm going to bed,” and he did. ✻ ✻ ✻ ✻ ✻ ✻ ✻ When I read this article* I thought of Proverbs 31:10 – 31 in God's Word where “a virtuous woman” is described. We have a lot of twenty-first century women who are virtuous and who make our homes and the work of the church function. Thank God for virtuous women. — John Clayton Our sign by the street!* From the Internet via several Ann Landers' columns, published at different years and through various newspapers, the author is anonymous to us. |
