WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel and pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

REMINDER: We will not have our Sunday night class on December 25 or January 1.

OUR NEW CLASSES ARE STARTING! Wednesday night we are studying the book of Galatians, and on Sunday evenings we are beginning Proverbs. Learning God's Word should be important for all of us; and these are content studies that contain material that should be new to all of us. Join us as we learn and grow in our understanding of God's Word.

COATS FOR KIDS HAPPENS THANKS TO GIBSONS. Today in this brutal weather there are 74 kids walking around in warm coats who did not have any before. This is thanks to Bill and Patty Gibson. When our supplier could not provide any coats, Bill and Patty spent virtually two days going to Walmart and other suppliers where they eventually found 74 coats which were tagged Wednesday night (12/14) and delivered by Bill on Thursday (12/15) to the schools that had requested them. The church used $1,100 to get the coats, but money was not the issue — time and perserverance was the issue. Thanks to the Gibsons for their hard work!

TODAY'S LESSON

THE BIRTH OF JESUS:
THE REST OF THE STORY

Sound on icon

John Clayton

INTRODUCTION — Matthew 1:18
A. Paul Harvey — “The rest of the story” — Mary and Jesus are certainly the focus.
B. Today let us look at some of the people we miss.
I. THE OLD PRIEST ZACHARIAS AND HIS WIFE
A. His job was to burn incense — Exodus 30:1, 7, 8.
B. His wife Elizabeth was a cousin to Mary — Luke 1:36.
1. She never had a child: she was old — Luke 1:7.
2. Was abused socially because of this — Luke 1:37.
C. They were told something hard to believe — Luke 1:37.
D. Zacharias has doubts — Luke 1:18.
1. Verse 20 — His punishment is being mute until the birth.
2. Why mute? Why not blind or deaf? — Could only observe, not give output.
E. Mary goes to Elizabeth when she hears the news.
1. John leaps in her womb — Luke 1:41 – 45.
2. Elizabeth is filled with Holy Ghost, preaches.
F. Zacharias and Elizabeth follow God's instructions.
1. Not politically correct to name him “John” — verse 59.
2. When they obey, God acts on Zacharias — verses 59 – 63.
G. Other people back up the story — Simeon (Luke 2:25-34) and Anna, a prophetess
... (Luke2:36 – 38).
II. JOSEPH THE FATHER OF JESUS
A. Not mentioned in Mark. John has just verses 1:45 and 6:42.
B. By the time Jesus is 12 he knows who Joseph is — not his biological father (2:48 – 49).
C. Not alive during Jesus’ ministry — Matthew 12:46; Mark 3:31; Luke 8:19; fulfills the
....role of father — Matthew 1:16.
D. Took Jesus to Jerusalem for purification — Luke 2:22, 41.
E. Took Jesus to Egypt to escape Herod — Matthew 2:13 – 14.
F. Exceptional — had started the marriage with Mary.
1. Matthew 1:18 — love overpowered hurt — verse 19.
2. Reacts to God's intervention — Matthew 1:24
3. How to we respond to God's lead?
III. THIS SHOWS US GOD WORKS IN SPECIAL WAYS.
A. 1 Corinthianss 3:6 – 9
B. 1 Corinthians 12:25 – 27

JESUS IS BETTER THAN SANTA*

Santa lives at the North Pole.
JESUS is everywhere.
Santa rides in a sleigh.
JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.
Santa comes but once a year.
JESUS is an ever present help.
Santa fills your stockings with goodies.
JESUS supplies all your needs.
Santa comes down your chimney uninvited.
JESUS stands at your door and knocks, and then enters your heart.
You have to stand in line to see Santa.
JESUS is as close as the mention of his name.
Santa lets you sit on his lap.
JESUS lets you rest in his arms.
Santa doesn't know your name, all he can say is “Hi, little boy or girl, What's your name?”
JESUS knew our name before we did. Not only does he know our name, he knows our address, too. He knows our history and future and he even knows how many hairs are on our heads.
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly.
JESUS has a heart full of love.
All Santa can offer is HO, HO, HO.
JESUS offers health, help and hope.
Santa says “You better not cry.”
JESUS says “Cast all your cares on me for I care for you.”
Santa's little helpers make toys.
JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions.
Santa may make you chuckle but,
JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.
While Santa puts gifts under your tree.
JESUS became our gift and died on the tree.
It's obvious there is really comparison.
