FAMILY NEWSPOTLUCK TODAY. This is the first Sunday of the month, and we have the tradition of eating together. We brought lots of food, so please plan to stay and enjoy good food and the fellowship of good people. If you did not bring anything, please do not let that stop you from staying. We have plenty, and we want you to be with us. TIMBERS has had a quarantine in place due to the flu bug, and at the time of the preparation of the bulletin we do not know whether they will let us in or not. We will have to announce this. If we do go, it will be after the congregational meeting and the service will start at 2:30. CONGREGATIONAL MEETING TODAY. See The Back Page (below). SPECIAL MESSAGE ABOUT OUR WEB SITE. “Kim and I are on a three-year assignment, and we listen to your sermons over the Internet, especially on Sunday here in Luanda, Angola. We look forward to your sermons and we want to thank the church there in Dowagiac afor making them available. It is convicting for me as I ponder how God extends the use of our skills for his service.” Mike Walker TODAY'S LESSON

It has been quite a while since we have had any kind of congregational meeting or attempt at communications concerning the work here. To change that we have used a questionnaire that listed the various efforts that the congregation has in place, some ideas about what we might want to add to that, and some reviews of physical needs that we have involving our property. If you did not get one of those sheets, they are in last week's bulletin or there are extra copies, just ask John Clayton for them. There are three responses you can make to this effort. (1) Ignore it. (2) Approve it with “yes” to everything listed. (3) Suggest we drop or modify the things listed. I have been encouraged by the fact that a large number of people have turned in the sheets and in many cases have volunteered to take responsibility for something that was listed. When there was a suggestion about dropping or stopping something, we have talked about the reasons and what alternatives we might have. I want to thank those of you who turned in the sheets and especially those of you who said you would take the responsibility to lead or take care of something on the sheet. We want this congregation to be united in everything we do. If we do not agree about something, we want to at least understand what the problems are and why or why not we should continue. This afternoon at 1:00 we will have a short congregational meeting. This is one last chance for you to ask questions about something, and for some final information including a financial report. This is not a time for debate, but a time for gathering final information and voicing final opinions. The men of the congregation will meet sometime within the next two weeks and discuss the information we have been given. In the past we have had congregational meetings that lasted a very long time, and which produced very little action. We are trying to change that, but we need everyone on board with what we are trying to do. Please stay and participate. — John Clayton Our sign by the street!Sign saying taken from Ronnie Sexton, a teacher of a Bible class at the Orange Avenue Church of Christ, Eustis, FL. |
