WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel and pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

POTLUCK TODAY: Please plan to stay for a potluck meal and enjoy time with your brothers and sisters in Christ. We will also be conducting a worship service at Timbers at 2:30 P.M. and need singers and folks to greet the staff and patients there. Make this a full day of serving and praising God.

SENIORS: Remember the senior brunch at Golden Corral in Mishawaka, Tuesday at 11:00 A.M.

OCTOBER 14 — KIDS' DAY AT GIBSONS': Every year Patty and Bill Gibson host a kids' day at their place with games, a hayride, food, and lots of fun for everyone. To help them plan, let Bill and Patty know if you can come, how many will be in your group, and what you can bring food wise to supplement their hamburgers and hotdogs.

OUR THANKS TO ALL who gave time and energy Saturday to help in the highway cleanup. We especially want to thank Richard Hoyt for setting things up and making all the arrangements to do this. We are planning another Red Cross blood bank session here and will announce a date soon. Serving the community is a part of what being a Christian is all about. Thank you everyone!

TODAY'S LESSON

RAPTURE THEOLOGY

John Clayton

INTRODUCTION — Big Business religion
A. Local “Bible Prophecy” effort — see “Unlocking Revelation Series” below.
1. Speakers: LeHaye, Jenkins, Walvoord, Ice, Lindsey, Van Impe, Jeffry, Hagee, etc.
2. Movies: “A Thief in the Night,” “Image of the Beast,” “Tribulation Force,” “The Omega
....Code,” “Left Behind.”
B. Claims that Jesus comes invisibly to remove his church, then a 7-year tribulation occurs
....where humanity faces the Antichrist. After 7 years Jesus returns visibly, establishes his
....kingdom and re-establishes Jewish worship in Jerusalem becoming the political ruler of
....the world.
C. Three “Rapture verses” are used to teach this.
I. THESSALONIANS 4:13 – 17
A. Is this a silent event?
B. Is this an invisible event?
1. Acts 1:9 – 11 — He is taken up, not he disappears.
2. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 – 5:3 and 2 Peter 3:10 – 14 — Earth and cosmos are gone
3. Sudden destruction overwhelms the lost.
II. MATTHEW 24 — Sometimes called the Parousia (coming).
A. Verse 3 tell us this is “the end of the world.”
B. Hannah and Samuel — a prayer from the gut — 1 Samuel 1:10 – 16 — Pour out your soul!
C. These verses have 3 questions — not one.
1. When will the temple be overthrown (verse 4 – 26)?
2. What will be the sign of His coming (verse 30)?
3. When will be the end of the world (verses 29 – 31)?
III. 1 CORINTHIANS 15:52 — Not a quiet event
A. Verse 50 — flesh and blood are not in the kingdom.
B. Body we are raised with — changed (verse 51); incorruptible (verse 52); immortal
....(verse 53); beyond death (verse 54). This is a resurrection not a resuscitation.
C. Two bodies are involved (verse 44).
SUMMARY — One resurrection, the cosmos is dissolved, there is one judgment day
....(Revelation 21:1 – 5).

THE BACK PAGE

UNLOCKING REVELATION SERIES

The picture below is part of an ad for a Bible Prophecy Seminar series being conducted by a major denomination in our area starting on September 25. There is a great deal of confusion in our world about “end times” prophecy, and very little of it is biblical in nature.

Four horsemen from Revelation 6

Here are seven questions these ads claim to answer. I have added passages from scriptures related to those questions. In our lesson this morning, we will explore some of these questions in more depth:

  • 1. “What is the purpose for the Rapture?” Read 1 Thessalonians 4:13 – 18 —
....the word “rapture” is not in the Bible.
  • 2. “How can we identify the antichrist?” Read 1 John 2:18, 22 and 4:3. Also
    ....2 John 7.
  • 3. “What will the Tribulation be like?” Read Revelation 7:14 — “tribulation”
....is not mentioned in the Bible as a single event. See Matthew 24:29 – 30
    ....for an example.
  • 4. “What is the Day of the Lord?” Read 2 Peter 3:10 – 12 — does anything
....physical remain according to these verses?
  • 5. “Where will Armageddon take place?” Read 2 Chronicles 35:32 and then
....Revelation 16:16 — Armageddon is the Hill of Megiddo described in
    ....Chronicles.
  • 6. “What will happen during the Millennium?” Read John 18:36;
    ....Revelation 20:3 – 4.
  • 7. “Will the human race survive eternity?” Read 1 Corinthians 15:50 – 55.

Read Matthew 22:17 – 21. All of his physical life Jesus fought to make people understand his kingdom was not a political, physical kingdom. His disciples wrestled with this idea, and Peter was ready to engage in a sword fight when Jesus was seized. That same struggle is going on today. The Kingdom is spiritual, not physical.
