WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel and pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

POTLUCK TODAY: Please plan to stay for potluck today. We have lots of food, and it is a great time to catch up on what is happening in people's lives and to talk about our plans for the work here. If you did not bring anything, that is not a problem. We have more than we can eat.

TIMBERS TODAY at 2:30 P.M. we will be conducting a worship service for the folks at Timbers. We need people to sing and who can visit with the patients who are there. This is a real opportunity to serve. Please join us.

NO FOOD BANK TODAY: The food bank will not be open today, because state regulations have prevented us from giving food when we have a worship service on the same day. We are now having the food bank the first Monday of the month from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. See Tina, Richard, or Patty if you have a question.

SENIORS Remember brunch at Golden Corral in Mishawaka on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. Come and enjoy a meal together with seniors from the area.

MARK December 1 on your calendar, to be on the float in the Dowagiac Christmas parade.

DO NOT BE ENSLAVED

by Cecil May, Faulkner University

“All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything” (1 Corinthians 6:12). While Christ teaches that all foods are clean and therefore lawful (Luke 11:41; Acts 10:10 – 15) Paul notes that, in addition to being lawful, things need to be engaged in to be “helpful and not enslaving.”

One who continually practices sin, whatever the sin, becomes enslaved by it (Romans 6:16). The modern phrase is “addiction.” We are familiar with drug and alcohol addiction. There is also sex addiction, power addiction, even money addiction. News stories abound of multibillionaires, with more money than they could ever use, committing crimes to get more, getting caught, and going to jail. No amount is ever enough.

Smart phones, texting, Facebook, Instagram, the Internet — all can be effective tools for accomplishing good ends. Like others, I find myself saying, “I don't know how we got along without them.” However, they too can be addictive, enslaving. A mother told me she sat across the table from her teenage son as he sat with earbuds, texting. She tried to talk to him, but he was oblivious. She finally took out her phone and texted him! If social media interferes with family time, if you cannot talk intelligently with friends for texting or tweeting, if you cannot bear to be separated from your phone for even a few minutes, you might ask yourself “Am I addicted?” We should say with Paul, “I will not be enslaved by anything.”

During football season I follow my favorite college team and a few pro teams. However, for some, it seems sports is their religion and their team is their god. Their conversation year around is about their team and the teams their team will play. They spend thousands of dollars a weekend to go to games. Their joy or deep grief is wrapped up in whether their team wins or loses. Are we teaching our children that Bible study and worship assemblies are more important than ball games? Remember “All things are lawful, but I will not be enslaved by anything.”
