WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel and pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

NEXT SUNDAY — A BUSY SPECIAL DAY: We have a lot going on next Sunday. First of all Glynn Langston will be here to speak at our worship service. He will also be with us for our adult Bible class at 10:00 a.m. Glynn will show us some of the materials and machines he uses in studying with the blind and we will have a question/answer session. We want everyone here to have a chance to hear him and visit with him.

After worship services we will have our usual potluck. Plan to stay and be a part of good fellowship and good eating (and hearing Glynn's jokes). At 2:30 Glynn will be with us at our devotional at Timbers. We will complete the day with our usual class on Sunday evening.

THANKS: to Patty Gibson, Tina Hoyt, Lana Fox, and Cynthia Clayton for cleaning the building after the ladies' class on January 20th. They spent 3 – 4 hours working hard on the building, and it shows.

(See The Back Page below for more News and Notes about our congregation.)

JESUS AND THE SAMARITAN WOMAN

Sound on icon

John 4:4 – 42

John Clayton

INTRODUCTION — BACKGROUND
A. Samaritans — descendants of the North Kingdom — hated by the Jews — would not speak
....to them
B. This was a male dominated society.
C. This woman was not considered moral by the Jews.
I. LESSON 1 — BE BLIND TO PREJUDICE.
A. This woman was “untouchable” to the Jews — wrong place, race, religion, marital status.
B. Who are the “untouchables” here, in your life?
II. LESSON 2 — NO REAL SATISFACTION IN THE PHYSICAL
A. The woman is preoccupied with the physical — verse 15.
1. America is preoccupied with the physical — what is important to you?
2. Verse 22 — you worship what you do not know.
3. Verses 19 – 24 — worship was centered on “where.”
B. Jesus' water comes from within to eternal life — verses 13, 14 — God's Spirit is within
....us when we obey God
III. LESSON 3 — GOD SEEKS A CERTAIN KIND OF WORSHIPPER.
A. Verses 23 – 24 — worship is for our benefit, not God's — all worship acts are for our
....participation — Romans 8:16.
B. What is associated with God's Spirit? — Galatians 5:22
C. What does God condemn in worship? — 1 Corinthians 3:1 – 23
D. When is worship vain? — Matthew 15:8 – 9
E. John 4:23 – 24 — two things needed
1. Spirit — pneuma - full of breath - not empty
2. Truth — John 17:13 – 19 — “Word is Truth”
IV. WHAT KIND OF WORSHIPPER ARE YOU?
A. Non-worshipper — prejudiced — physical?
B. John 4:42 — Do you believe? Are you what God seeks? — John 3:16 – 17 — God loves
....you, wants you.

News and Notes

There is so much going on among us that we could not get all of it in the FAMILY NEWS section of the bulletin and we cannot spend a lot our worship time with announcements of all that is going on among us, so let us catch up on some of that here today.

Benjamin Wallace announced last Sunday that he is going to become a big brother. The baby is due in late summer and its gender, etc., is unknown at this point.

Larry Fox had surgery on his hand for one of those trigger finger problems and is doing OK as far as we know.

Kim Schirripa is headed to her mom's place to help her mom who is having surgery on the 31st.

Dane Gift has been hired to work for the government at their office in Independence, Ohio, just south of Cleveland. He will begin his work there on March 5. It has been a long haul for Dane and we congratulate him on being selected for this position. He, Mok, and Deacon will be moving in late February.

Tina Hoyt is working with doctors to see about a spinal fusion to try and stop the enormous pain she has had. We will have more about this shortly as she had a consultation meeting with a surgeon on Thursday.

Keep Willard Wall in your prayers as he cares for his wife who is critically ill. She has been doing some better!

WILLIE FRANKLIN AND OUR YOUTH RALLY will be Memorial Day weekend, May 25 – 27. Save the date and plan to be with us. This is a change of date.

THE FUN FAIR — effort is making progress. Bill and Patty have discovered a pony ride availability, which will be ideal for what we plan to do to attract community to our building, especially families with children. We are also finding some items we can rent to use such as a balloon slide and a bounce house. Those items combined with some home made things for kids to do should make the day fun for everyone, and we will have some food available as well. This is wonderful advertising, and we will need everyone available June 16 to make all this work.
