WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel and pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

THANKS to everyone who helped this past weekend. To the Wheeler family for taking care of Willie. To Tracey Brewer who arranged the food, and to everyone who brought food and brought visitors; and to the ladies who cleaned the building; and to Shane Wallace who mowed the grass. The weekend was a huge success.

AN INCREDIBLE WEEKEND, AN INCREDIBLE MAN

One of my favorite “Bill Gibson stories” is his line some years ago when he said that I could talk as long as I wanted to, but he was only going to listen for 20 minutes. This past Sunday evening Willie Franklin spoke for over 90 minutes and no one stopped listening. I referred to Willie as a brotherhood ten-talent man, and now you know why. Willie has a way of drawing you in — no, he has several ways. Because of his warm, smiling demeanor, he can call you out by name in the middle of a lesson and you are not offended. Because of his life's history and the great change that has taken place in this man, we can all relate to him and know that he has sacrificed more for the Lord and the church than we have imagined we ever would. When he told us of the abuse in his family, his alcoholic mother, and the fact that he was on his way to kill his father because of the abuse the father had heaped on Willie's sisters when his life changed, we all found ourselves looking within our lives and looking at how our relationship to Jesus Christ has changed us.

When I read the story of the life of Paul, I see the similarities to Willie. Like Willie, Paul was on his way to do violence when God intervened in his life (Acts 9:1-3). Like Willie, Paul used his early life experience and his conversion to convince men and women they needed to become Christians. Like Willie, Paul fought the establishment of his day to proclaim the gospel and, like Paul, Willie radiates undying enthusiasm and conviction about his ministry.

Unlike Paul, who said he was slow of speech (1 Corinthians 2:1-5), Willie is a masterful orator. I can understand why no one can listen to me for much more than 20 minutes, but all of us sat in awe of Willie's lessons and were not ready to quit when he said, “It is time.” If you missed any of Willie's talks, you missed a great opportunity to be strengthened and encouraged. Unfortunately the only lesson we have on our dowagiaccoc.org website is the Sunday morning lesson, but listen to it if you were not here. Our thanks to Samantha Wheeler who organized and arranged this incredible weekend.
