FAMILY NEWSPLEASE SIGN UP! One week from today we will be setting up our booth at the Cass County Fair, and one week from tomorrow we will need to have workers at the booth to greet visitors and maintain supplies. There is a clip board in the lobby with time slots for Monday through Saturday with each slot being three hours. We need two people in each slot. Some of us with flexible schedules are waiting to fill in the missing slots, but we need to spread the load around. You will have a free pass in and do not need to know anything to work the booth. PLEASE DO IT TODAY IF YOU HAVE NOT SIGNED UP YET! THANKS to everyone who helped with the highway clean up. We got it done before it got hot, even with some regulars out of town. Our thanks to Samantha Wheeler for taking a load of kids to Camp Indogan. She even called some kids that had never been before and got them to go. Thanks to all the men who have been working on the water problems under our building. A lot of hours have been spent with the insurance company, engineers, and government personnel. Hopefully we can start construction to get our classrooms back in service soon. TODAY'S LESSON

THE BACK PAGEOUR EMPHASIS — THE BIBLEOur lesson today is on the Bible and why we need to use it as a guide to our lives. We live in a culture and in a time when the teachings of the Bible are being challenged on every front. God's teaching about morality, about the family, about sexual behavior, and about how we view every human being — born, unborn, young, old, and handicapped; all of these things are being attacked. Movies and television denigrate morality and entertainment personalities live in defiance of God's standards and plan for the family. Morality is being discarded in the name of personal rights and medical issues. The World Health Organization (WHO) has just issued a claim that sexual predators and sexual abuse are caused by medical issues and so a sexual predator is not morally responsible for what they do to a child or a woman. How that affects criminal acts remains to be seen, but it will at least mitigate punishment. It is important to understand that the church has answers to all of this, not by our political stance or from a tradition, but rather from what the Bible says about all of these issues. People try to discard the Bible as a book of ancient myths and stories that is out of date for modern man; but, the evidence that the Bible is true and is the best way to live is massive in the twenty-first century. Christianity has been attacked on the basis of human teachings, and most of those teachings have been in opposition to what Jesus taught, and the actions done in the name of Christianity have been condemned in the Bible. The list of examples is huge — the Crusades, the KKK, slavery, the suppression and abuse of women, celibacy, mercenary activity, etc. Our emotional response is to throw up our hands and say “I can't do anything about all that,” but change begins with one small step, and education is the start of what can become global change. Our Cass County Fair booth on what the Bible says is a start. The lesson we are studying from Psalm 119 will hopefully encourage us to realize that we can initiate change and with God's help that change will grow and we can in fact change the world. — John Clayton Our sign by the street!Scripture links/references are from BibleGateway.com. www.dowagiaccoc.org |
