FAMILY NEWSPOTLUCK NEXT SUNDAY: Remember to bring a dish and plan to stay. After the potluck we will conduct a worship service at Timbers at 2:30. BLOOD BANK HERE SEPTEMBER 8: One of the ways we serve the community is to allow the Blood Bank to have a donation session here using our building to do their important work. Tracey Brewer has been making the arrangements for this event, and the Blood Bank brings all of the equipment. We provide refreshments and help where needed, and we need volunteers to do that. If you can give blood, please do — and invite friends and neighbors to give as well. If you can help or bring items for people to have after they give blood, see Tracey. SENIOR DEVO THIS COMING TUESDAY: Everyone is invited to participate in our monthly Senior Devo at the Claytons' on Tuesday night at 7:00. Just bring your Bible and join other Christians from all over the Michiana area. If you need directions just ask John Clayton or Karl Marcussen. Do not forget to get a prayer list from Julie or Karl. There is a lot going on. TODAY'S LESSON

THE BACK PAGETHE FIRE TORNADOAs you know, we were not with you the past two Sundays, because we were in a community outreach in Chester, California. The church in Chester is even smaller than we are with anywhere from 8 to 12 on a regular Sunday. We were there to help them make some inroads in the community. We spoke at the congregation's building on both Sundays and had a lectureship on evidences for God in the community center on Friday and Saturday. Chester is on the northeast side of California, just east of Redding and northwest of Reno, Nevada. You may recall that the fires in California were in that area, and we were in smoke most of the time we were in Chester. We had some time off during the first part of the week and Cindy and I went to the coast and spent time walking in the giant redwoods, the largest living organism above the ground in the world. The trees are incredible with trunks over ten feet in diameter. We also went to the coast and saw the rocky shoreline of northern California and Oregon. On our way back to Chester we got to drive through a burned out area on California highway 299 which had been closed earlier due to the fires. We saw mile after mile of charred tree stumps and mounds of dust. The vegetation had been so dense that it burned quickly, and wind gust of 200 mph fanned the flames so the ground temperature hit 2000 degrees! Power lines melted; cars were covered with puddles of what had been liquid metal. There are several lessons in this terrible fire. First of all, what God has created cannot be improved upon by man. In the natural world small fires from lightning and spontaneous generation reduce debris and bushes to nothing; and so before man started protecting the ground, a big fire never had enough fuel to develop. The Rangers pointed out to us that until man upset this balance, the country side was free of catastrophic fires. Life is the same way. God created us and gave us a guide as to how to live. When we mess up God's system, we burn out and destroy ourselves. Do it God's way — avoid life's fire tornadoes. We have more lessons to share from this trip we will tell later. — John Clayton Our sign by the street!Sign saying from www.sayingsforchurchsigns.com Scripture links/references are from BibleGateway.com.
