WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel and pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

POTLUCK TODAY: What better way to start a New Year than to have a wonderful meal with brothers and sisters in Christ who know you, love you, and want to spend time with you and catch up on what happened over the Christmas holiday. We have plenty of food, so if you did not bring anything do not let that stop you. Plan to stay.

TIMBERS THIS AFTERNOON: At 2:30 P.M. we will have our monthly devotional at Timbers Nursing Home. We have a song service with short comments and prayers usually lasting 30 minutes. We then have a communion service for those who wish to participate, and we spend some time talking with clients and nurses and getting them back to their rooms. We need your presence to encourage people who in some cases feel forgotten and/or forsaken. Having your voice in the singing helps a great deal. Take 30 minutes to bring the love of Christ to a group that will welcome you.

SENIOR BRUNCH THIS TUESDAY: The brunch was moved from the first to the eighth. It is at Golden Corral in Mishawaka at 11:00 A.M. and everyone is welcome.

HOW DOES GOD HELP WITH YOUR GOLIATH

One of our problems with understanding how God helps with our “goliaths” is we still tend to cling to the world and its evaluation of how a problem is solved. Looking at the examples in the sermon outline above, compare what the world says and what God says:

  • Finances — Matthew 6:19-21; Philippians 4:11-13; 1 Timothy 6:7-12 versus
....World — Success measured by who has the most.
  • Work — Luke 3:14; Philippians 4:11-13; Hebrews 13:5 versus World — “Take this
    ....job and shove it.”
  • Family — Genesis 2:24; Ephesians 6:10-14 versus World — Career, personal desires
    ....come first
  • Drugs, alcohol — Proverbs 20:23; 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 10:13; versus
....World — Have a good time and let XXX be a part of it.
  • Mental Health — Ephesians 6:10-18; Philippians 4:11-13 versus World — Let your
....psychologist lead you to better things.
  • Marriages — Genesis 1:20 & 24; Genesis 2:24; Ephesians 5:22-32 versus
....World — Marry who you want, when you want, for what ever reason you want.
  • Health and death — Matthew 6:25-33; 2 Timothy 4:6-8 versus World — The one
....thing to avoid at all cost.
  • Weight — 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 10:13 versus World — Take a pill and get thin and
    ....attractive to be OK
  • Pain — Matthew 11:28-30; 1 Corinthians 10:13; Hebrews 4:15 versus World — Take
....a pill and avoid pain at any cost
  • People — Mark 6:34; Romans 13 versus World — Survival of the fittest
  • Fear — Matthew 10:26-31; Romans 13; 2 Timothy 4:6-8 versus World — Trust in
    ....government, take pills for anxiety.
  • Purpose in life — Ephesians 3:9-11 and 6:12 versus World — Pleasure — no
    ....ultimate value.

This is very incomplete due to space, but I hope you can see that for the Christian there is a reserve of power provided by God to help us cope with life. On Sunday night we have been studying Proverbs and what Solomon said about these issues. What we have seen is that Jesus took what Solomon said and enlarged and explained it.
