FAMILY NEWSTHE LADIES CLASS was postponed to this next Saturday the 27th due to the Easter holiday this weekend. THANKS TRACEY AND LANA: One of our main activities in the community is the coat give-away in the fail. We cannot wait until fall to buy coats, so Tracey Brewer and Lana Fox have been buying coats at discount prices in recent weeks so we have a supply available when it gets cold for kids that do not have them. Thanks to both of these ladies for their good work. HELP NEEDED OUTSIDE. As you can see as you enter our building, there is a lot that needs to be done soon on the grounds around the building. The grounds by the entry need to be raked and seeded, and the children's area needs to be put back the way it was with the fence repaired and the area seeded. The materials will be paid for by the church, but we need some labor to be donated to get this done. See Bill Gibson about getting the materials to do this, and let us get it done! Our Family Fun Fair is our next major event and that is in two months. We do not want the dunk tank in a muddy pond or people wading around in dirt. Please help! TODAY'S LESSON

THE BACK PAGEUNDERSTANDING EASTER PART 2Today is Easter Sunday. Last Sunday's bulletin had a review of the celebrations carried on by various Christian groups at this time of year — Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday and Easter in particular. We still have copies of that bulletin if you would like one, just see John Clayton. It is a good thing to be reminded of the life and death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We do this every Sunday in our communion service. It is a good thing to have a time of fasting and prayer and thanksgiving to God. It is not a good thing only to do these things once a year, or to totally miss what these celebrations are about. My atheist parents made a big deal out of Easter even though they did not believe in God. My mother would force my two younger brothers and I to put on our best clothing and go to a lecture on the evils of religion. It was a boring 60 minutes followed by a fancy dinner; but to avoid being grounded we had to be on our best behavior. The terrible fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris was a national tragedy for France. It was not a religious tragedy, because atheism has a strong hold on France as it does most of Europe; but, it was a blow to tourism and to the history of France. Notre Dame is French for “Our Lady” and calls attention to the Virgin Mary. Having been in that building and having seen some of the rituals and celebrations held there I can understand the sadness of the tragedy to the French. The fact that this happened during “Holy Week” seems to have been lost on the media, and watching the steeple fall moved people to tears because of the historic significance of this man-made symbol, not because it was of any spiritual significance. The word “Easter” is not found in the Bible. In the KJV Acts 12:4 mistranslates the word “passover” as Easter. The celebration of the resurrection and all the things that have been added to it like Easter eggs, rabbits, etc., are modern additions to what the Bible tells us to do. One has to feel the sense of dismay that Jesus felt in Matthew 23:37 as he wept over the rejection of God in his day knowing the destruction of the temple was coming. — John Clayton Our sign by the street!Scripture links/references are from BibleGateway.com.
