WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE
We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel and pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us. |
FAMILY NEWS
THANKS:
- To Lana Fox who got the carpet in the fellowship area cleaned. It looks better than it has since it was new.
- To Bill and Patty Gibson who moved all the furniture back into the room so our Wednesday night class was not delayed.
- To Richard Hoyt who has continued to make daily trips to the building from Niles to water the new grass and get the scars from our construction healed.
SHULTS-LEWIS's commodity pick up is ongoing. They are stopping by to pick up the coin cans and the food goods. We are going to add $100 to the things they are picking up as support from the congregation. If you want to add to that see Bill Gibson.
PARKING LOT: We are having the parking lot resealed sometime in the next couple of weeks. If you are planning to use the building for any special reason you should let Richard Hoyt know. This is to fix the cracks and the weathering issues that go with any asphalt surface.
REMEMBER THOSE WHO NEED A CARD OR WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM YOU.
TODAY'S LESSON
THIS SUNDAY John Clayton is not feeling. We are having one of our guests preachers do the preaching. The rest of this printed bulletin was made up by John before he realized he was not going to be able to speak.

“IDLE” WORSHIP
by Marion Owens
As we read the history of the Israelites after their miraculous deliverance from Egypt, we see that they had a serious problem. Despite having seen God’s great power, they continually kept being drawn to the idol worship of the nations around them. Although God punished them time and time again, they continued to become involved with pagan idols.
Even today God's people have the problem of being drawn away from God's plans by being attracted to what others do. It is commonly believed that one can be a fully acceptable Christian just by being regular in church attendance; this has been the standard for “faithfulness.” This idea is that so long as one has faith, works are not important. This is basically “idle” (l-D-L-E) worship, instead of l-D-O-L worship.
The truth is that Jesus made it clear that his followers must not be idle. He worked, the Father works, and we must work if we are going to please him. Among many passages that show this is John 15:1-2 where he said, “I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, … .” In verse 5 he said, “If you remain in me and I in him, you will bear much fruit; … .”
If we are not bearing fruit for the Lord — if we are the idle ones — we need to wake up and change our lives before it is too late. Let us not be the branches which are cut off and thrown into the fire!
AN EXERCISE
HERE IS A SUGGESTION to help you figure out how idle you are. Every week we have 168 hours given to us by God. (That is 7 days x 24 hours per day.) Make a list of how you use that 168 hours. Assume you get eight hours a day sleeping, three hours eating three meals, and 40 hours at work. That adds up to 117 hours, leaving 51 hours for you to use. Figure out how you are using that 51 hours. If you watch TV three hours every day or work overtime 3 hours every day that is 21 hours, so what about the remaining 30? How about tithing your time? Give God 10% — 16 hours and 48 minutes, a week spent writing cards, making phone calls, visiting, coming to Bible class, studying, supporting things needed to support the work of this congregation. Can you imagine what would happen if we all did that? Do not be a part of “IDLE worship.”
