WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel any pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children can go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand, while the adults stay in the auditorium for a lesson at their level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can provide, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

FROM GLYNN AND ANN: “Ann and I had a wonderful and most encouraging visit last weekend. It was a joy to be with you, and the party was really fun. Most of all we were delighted with your company. We also thank you for the faithful prayers and support which are a part of your help to this ministry to the blind. I was glad to get to show you the Bibles we send. Times like this past weekend live in our memory and we hope to get to visit with you again. May our Lord continue to strengthen, guide, and protect each of you. In Christ with love and thanks. Glynn and Ann Langston”

SPECIAL DAY on MAY 26. We need 20 workers to be here on the 26th for a community food give away. Everyone can help with this, but we need the workers to greet and hand out the food. Save the date. We need you!

JULY 11 & 18 — FAMILY FUN FAIR and AREA SINGING HERE. Mark these dates on your calendar. We need 100% participation in these two programs. The idea is that we will set up the tents and facilities for Family Fun Fair and then leave them up to use again for the singing.

PROUD OF US

This past Sunday we enjoyed having Glynn and Ann Langston with us. They were at Niles Sunday morning and with us Sunday evening. Glynn is an old friend of mine, and we have worked on a lot of projects together. We always talk when we get together because our ministries overlap. Our quarterly journal is read onto an audio master and duplicated onto CDs and cassettes which Glynn mails to around 100 blind or visually impaired people. In addition to that, he puts us in contact with atheists and skeptics that he runs into in his work. He spends his summers in Ireland where he works with Irish congregations, and also does work for the blind for the Irish government.

All of this gives us a lot of opportunities to talk about our ministries, but also about the Lord's church as a whole. It is astounding to me that Glynn's work is not sponsored by a large Bible Belt congregation that has a lot of money and could expand his outreach in some incredible ways. Most of Glynn's support comes from congregations like us, small in size but large in spirit (to use his words).

Glynn's wife Ann is an amazing person as well. She and Tracey have a lot in common. Ann has been involved in an outreach to people struggling with death and end of life situations. Tracey lost her mom last year and has recently been working for a funeral home. I asked Tracey to talk with Ann because of Tracey's expertise and sensitivity in this area. If you would be interested in this kind of ministry please see me.

Glynn and I talked about congregations in this area and what we see happening in America to the church as a whole. Our affluent modern society has gotten so infatuated with materialism that it has influenced the church. We do not see many congregations growing or even holding their own, and we especially are concerned with the fact that congregations everywhere seem to be immersed in entertainment, but have no evangelistic activity that the congregational members can participate in.

It is easy to play church. What I mean by that is that going to services and maybe even classes is easy and makes no demands on us. The fact that our group has a dozen programs that members here can participate in is unique. We need to be proud, not in an arrogant or self-righteous way, but proud to say that we serve Jesus and we do it every day in a multiplicity of ways. Thank God that he lets us do this, and that we can benefit by being a part of his work.
