TO OUR VISITORS

The family of God here at Dowagiac Church of Christ wishes to extend to you a warm welcome.  If you have questions about our worship services and why we do what we do, we will be glad to give you a biblical answer.  The uniqueness of the Church of Christ is that we are trying to restore to the best of our ability those things that we see the first century Church doing.  We are also working hard at building the spirit, unity, and love that Jesus taught and prayed for.  We have no clergy, but are working together as equal co-workers trying to serve one another and the area in which we live.  Come study with us, grow with us, and serve with us as we strive to do God’s will in all things.

BIBLES

For the past several weeks we have been encouraging you to take the small testaments we have and give them to folks you know who are not Christians and who will accept them.  These small Bibles are keyed for self teaching.  If you have not looked carefully at them, do so.  On the front cover is a page number for you to turn to and read.  When you go to that page and read it there is another note sending you to a next step.  This is continued all the way through so that the plan of salvation God has given us, and the significance of the Church is taught.  We encourage you to teach by just giving the Bible to someone.  You can write the Church address and phone number in the front cover if you wish so that people can ask questions and get help.  This is a wonderful, positive, free, nonintrusive method of teaching that we can all do.  Be a part of it!

                 FAMILY NEWS

POTLUCK!  Be sure and stay today and enjoy time with your church family.  If you did not bring something, do not worry about it.  There will be plenty.  Please stay and participate.  We will have our usual meetings to talk about plans.  Last Sunday the men decided to contract the cement work under the pull through.  Hopefully that will get done soon, and we can move on to the paving project to upgrade our physical facility and make it more visitor friendly.  Good things are happening.  Be a part of the planning!!

MOVE ALONG

When Christian Herter was governor of Massachusetts, he was running hard for a second term in office.  One day after a hard day of campaigning, he arrived to eat at a church barbecue.  It was late afternoon and Herter was famished.  As he moved down the serving line, he held out his plate to the woman serving chicken.  She put a piece on his plate and turned to the next person in line.

“Excuse me,” Herter said, “Do you mind if I have another piece of chicken?”  “Sorry,” the woman told him, “I’m supposed to give one piece of chicken to each person.”  “But I’m starved,” the governor said. “Sorry,” the woman said again, “only one to a customer.”  The governor was a modest and unassuming man, but he decided this time he would throw a little weight around. “Do you know who I am?” he said.  “I am the governor of this state.”  “Do you know who I am?” the lady responded.  “I’m the lady in charge of the chicken.  Move along mister.”

That is a good lesson in authority.  It is also a lesson in humility.  Who is the authority in your life?  It is important that we get it right.  Many times we like to be “in charge”--or at least we like to think we are.  We may even try to throw our weight around  a little in order to have things our own way.  The truth is that we are not in charge--there is a higher authority.  We need to humble ourselves and learn to submit to this authority.

God has made Jesus Christ both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36) and He died on the cross to become our savior--to pay the price for our sins.  Jesus rose from the dead three days later, and He lives to be our King.  Every tongue is going to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:11), the only question is when.  To do it now means salvation.  To wait until the day of judgment means condemnation (Matthew 7:21).  To confess Christ is to trust and obey him.  We need to “move along” in obedience to the Lord.  See Acts 16:30-31; 2 Corinthians 7:9-10; Romans 10:9-10; Acts 2:38; and Luke 6:46.
