WELCOME!
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE

We are a group of believers who simply try to follow the Bible as a guide for all we do. Everything done in our worship service is something for which we have a Bible basis. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. We will sing hymns together and we will observe the Lord's Supper or Communion together. We will also have an opportunity to give to the work of God in this area. This collection is for the members here, and if you are visiting you should not feel and pressure to give. Our lesson time will be divided into two groups. The young children will go to our classroom area in the basement where they will be taught the Bible at a level they can understand. The adults will stay in the auditorium for a lesson at an adult level. We do try to serve the community, and if you have some needs that we can help you with, mention it to one of the members. Thank you for worshipping with us.

FAMILY NEWS

SAVE FEBRUARY 9: We have some major construction issues we need to work on, and we need all the hands and muscles we can get. See The Back Page from last week for more on this subject!

WEATHER PROCEDURE: If the weather is bad for any service we have we will use a phone tree to advise everyone of whether services are canceled or not. The Gibsons are the closest ones to the building and will make the final decision based on road conditions in Dowagiac. If services are canceled we have a chain set up where anyone who attends regularly will be called. If you have doubts, call the Gibsons at 269-782-4564 or the Claytons at 269-687-9426.

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY is February 3. That is also our potluck day and our worship service at Timbers Nursing Home. We plan to start our Sunday night class a little early at 5:45 P.M. that day and then those who want to see Super Bowl LIII and its ads are invited to the Claytons'. We are recording the Super Bowl from the beginning of the broadcast so we can watch it from the beginning and pizza, drinks, and popcorn will be provided. In the lobby are copies of the flyer on this that were distributed last Sunday. Plan to have a full day with your church family.

WE ARE ALL BIBLE SCHOLARS

Webster's Dictionary defines a scholar as a “learned person” or “a pupil.” Every Christian has to be a scholar or they would not be a Christian. To became a Christian it was necessary for you to learn what God tells you to do to be saved. If you did not understand what you were doing when you were baptized, then you just got wet. The problem is that many people stop when they are baptized and their learning comes to a halt.

Our congregation is dedicated to learning, and what we are trying to learn is the message of the Bible. What God wants us to know is revealed in his word, and each of us has different learning depending upon our age, the amount of study we have done, and our experience.

For several years now we have been having three kinds of study in our classes. On Sunday morning we have been looking at biblical personalities — who they were, what they did, why they did it and what effect it had on the history of the church. On Sunday night we have been studying wisdom literature, using Proverbs to learn from the wisest man who ever lived and comparing it to the teachings of Jesus and the first century church. On Wednesday night we have been studying the letters Paul wrote to various congregations, and what his advice was to those congregations.

Beginning this week our Sunday morning class and our Wednesday night class will be new and different. We are watching a DVD series which starts with a careful study of how we got the books of the Bible and what style of literature they are. The three sections of the Old Testament (Law, Prophets, and Writings) and the four sections of the New Testament (Gospels, Epistles, Acts, and Revelation) are being studied and a book by book study will follow. Our Wednesday night class starts a study of the Pastoral books this Wednesday (Timothy, Titus, and Hebrews). You will learn in these classes. Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and grow as one of God's scholars.

Our sign by the street!

Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow!

The quotation on the sign is from Isaiah 1:18 (NIV).
